RESTAURANT GARGRENGA at Alpencamping Nenzing

This is a recent discovery only that originally I had heard of their glamping of chalets built out from the hills with amazing views (see photo below)

Having lost a great restaurant serving regional cuisine in the close by village of Gurtis, I happen to hear of this restaurant at this camping complex. On confirming with my cousin, a table was booked as I had some visitors from Singapore and I wanted somewhere with good regional cuisine and decor.

We were not disappointed, with a bit of a hair raising drive up to the camping site from Nenzing on the Balzulstrasse - most of the road close to the village of Nenzing is only wide enough for one car with passing points.

Although it felt strange going to a campsite, the reception building of the main complex is very inviting and houses all the restaurants and bar they offer. As it was dinner and it was already dark, I could only imagine the views.

We had a lovely waitress, very bubbly and always joking, she spoke German to those who could and English to those who couldn't handle German. All with ease and charm.

Our wine for the evening was her suggestion, a Henrich Blaufränkisch Leithaberg 2018 - a nice introduction to Austrian red grape variety for my Singaporean guests. Our water came in a rather fancy flask as well!

We were too full for dessert, but I did have a Affogato – Espresso mit Vanilleeis while the others had normal espressos.

Definitely a place to try out some typical regional cuisine with such friendly staff and cosy atmosphere. I think the images speak for themselves - we had a lovely evening and I love the Austrian decor which you hardly see anymore - wooden panel ceilings, walls, Austrian style wood tables and chairs. There is an old fashion kahelofen in the main dining room as well.

As much as they can, they try to source their products from local producers, not only the food, but also the drinks as well!
