JAPANESE/NEPALESE FUSION, LONDON, UK

HAKU KITCHEN, TUFNELL PARK, LONDON

This is another of my locals though it has taken me some time before I could try it out. Passing it during the evenings I had noticed how packed with customers it was and thought to try it out for lunch.  As you can see from the opening times, it mainly caters for the evening meal but recently it has opened it doors for lunch (specific days), and on this occasion a friend and myself had a very late lunch there.

The place is small, slightly what I call cutesy decorated (interior mural) with basic table and chairs and with very welcoming softly spoken staff.

For our lunch, we ordered a couple of starters and a main each, accompanied by tea served in cute mugs.

My preconceptions and generalisations (sorry) when ordering the vegetable gyoza, I was expecting something like the momos you get in Nepal or Bhutan (which is where I had my first). So when the quite delicate gyozas appeared, I was pleasantly surprised. Not only do they look delicate, but they are delicate when eaten!

The Takoyaki, octopus balls, were really good too.

The list for warm mains is short, my friend opted for the vegan udon noodle soup, while I chose the yakisoba noodles with friend panko chicken.

Delicate flavours would be the words I would choose to describe the dishes. There are a lot of different ingredients that go into each dish, but they all blend together very delicately.

Unfortunately the day was very cold and windy, so our choices were aimed to keep warm. There will be a next time, so that we can try out their sushi and sashimi - so hopefully an update to this will come soon.
