Shochu Kanteen is Shochu Lounge, the same place, just offering food during weekday lunch, and positioning themselves as a place for ramen. The menu is small which is actually good as it means you can have a quick hot meal and go. However they have now closed for the summer, but will they re-open for ramen after?
I had wanted to try Shochu Kanteen for quite a while and even had an offer for a free lunch with them which I had to unfortunately miss due to other commitments. However, luck at hand when a few last minute transport and appointments made it possible for me to try Shochu Kanteen out.
Not so good for Shochu Kanteen but really good for me that day, the venue had very few people at lunch. I had wanted somewhere quiet and relaxing, so opting for the sofas with a table, my friend and I sat down to lunch.
I remember they had a wall with great Japanese Anime drawings, though this time they changed it to something more appropriate for the Kanteen.
Besides our main dish: mine was piri piri baby chicken ramen and my friend chose the chirashidon – mixed sashimi on rice, we tried their octopus balls, and their tofu & kimchi buns. That plus an interesting way of serving juice… in jars… We had a great relaxing lunch. The food was great – kanteen for me implied for me not quite the level of upstairs at Roka, but I was pleasantly surprised. However, it isn’t a place to have a quick and cheap lunch either.
And despite our initial idea of light lunch, we also ended up ordering dessert!
I will let the pictures do the talking, especially as we will have to see if Shochu Kanteen re-opens after summer or not!
